Due Mar 21
The Art & Literature of Ancient Greece
Essay 1 has two possible due dates, both early in the semester.
- Option A (a different page): focus on the Ancient Near East (material we study in the first three weeks of class).
- Option B (this page): focus on Ancient Greece (material we study in the second three weeks of class).
Essay Prompt: in a 1200-1500 word essay, use a text we read for this class to better understand an object you encountered on your tour of the MFA Boston (or vice-versa).
If you’re on this page and choosing Option B with the due date shown below, make sure to choose a literary text that we read from Ancient Greece: Medea, The Symposium, etc. (and NOT Hedwig and the Angry Inch). For the other text, I encourage you to find an MFA source from the same culture—or a closely related one. In casting about for a “lens” to bring your main text into focus, it generally doesn’t make sense to draw from a completely different context.
Due by midnight the evening of Saturday, Mar 21. Post your essay as a .pdf in the comments below.
