Due Apr 20
Salem Excursion Interdisciplinary Reflection
Over the past few months, Team G has been studying cultural tipping points through the lens of humanities, social science and rhetoric. On April 17th, you will journey as a Team to Salem, where you will experience a local epicenter of art, history and culture. During your time in Salem, pay attention to ways that the trip intersects with the learning you have done in your CGS courses. Then, write a 2-3 paragraph reflection that addresses the following question:
- What is one piece of evidence from the Peabody Essex Museum that intersects with your learning in all of your CGS classes?
For example, you might analyze a painting or artifact from the museum that connects with a historical time period studied in SS, but also reflects a theme from a literary text studied in humanities. Or, you might analyze a historical artifact in the museum that references modes of power studied in SS and concepts of censorship, persuasion and/or testimony studied in RH. The strongest ones would not just describe or talk about the classes in isolation, but do some interdisciplinary analysis. Make sure that you address every CGS class you are taking. .
These are just a few of the many ways you might approach this assignment. Ultimately, reflect on the meaningful connections you find between your classes and the material experienced in Salem. You are free to reference the trolley tour; however, be sure to reference at least one piece of evidence from the museum.
2-3 paragraphs, typed, double-spaced, submitted by 11pm the evening of Monday, Apr 20 in each of your CGS classes. Include your own digital photo from the Peabody Essex as evidence.
- Rhetoric: Submit to RH Blackboard
- Social Science: Submit to SS Blackboard
